Supervise assigned personnel (sworn and non-sworn) in providing prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards; enforcing traffic, parking, and other district regulations; and providing overall assistance to all district communities, schools and facilities.
Supervise and evaluate personnel as assigned by function.
Ensure officers and other personnel have the require training and equipment to fulfill their mission.
Assist in the development and implementation of police department processes by providing assistance to supervisors and providing the Assistant Chief with status reporting.
Make certain incidents and criminal activities occurring on or near campuses and district facilities are reported in timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures of the Board of Trustees, the district, and the Police and Security.
Services department via notification of the chain of command.
Oversee the collection, tabulation, and reporting of district-wide criminal statistics for use in identifying and implementing crime prevention initiatives.
Perform the use of proper procedures in the restraint, apprehension, and transportation of disruptive or arrested individuals.
Testify before grand jury, criminal or civil courts, or at hearings as required
Coordinate responses that require multiple officers to respond to incidents and requests for additional resources
Respond to calls for service from principals, administrators, staff and community
Must be able to work any shift hours or assigned function, including weekends and holidays; no schedule is considered permanent to include days off and maybe changed to meet the needs of the department to include supervisory coverage at athletic and special events and other district-wide events.
Liaison with law enforcement agencies and personnel from other school districts as required.
Complete timely, accurate, and detailed written reports on all activities requiring reports to include payroll timesheets for assigned personnel.
Coordinate training opportunities with Training Sergeant for assigned personnel.
Maintain professional police ethical standards.
Participate in professional development training.
Keep abreast of legislative and TCOLE changes affecting law enforcement and the department.
Ensure Police Records are maintained and compliant for auditing purposes.
Supervise the activities of assigned staff in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws; responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university required.

Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE)- Advanced Peace Officer Certification or higher required.

Five (5) years of direct law enforcement experience and two (2) years in a police supervisor or detective position required.

Ability to work with little or no supervision.

Experience and ability to speak before the public.

Knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Education Code, and DISD Board Policies preferred.

Proficient in basic computer skills with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and ARMS.

Capable of analyzing facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.

Experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing programs, projects, and initiatives.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from district personnel, parents, and the public.

Skilled in organizational, communication, supervisory, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.

Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Must comply with hiring standards set forth in the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for Peace Officer licensing to include all hiring requirements as prescribed by the District and the Police and Security Services Department.

Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community of district staff members and the public.

Capable of solving problems of a routine degree of complexity under pressure.
