The Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking experienced law enforcement professionals to serve as Supervising Investigator I. This is a sworn Peace Officer position subject to California P.O.S.T. requirements, offering the opportunity to lead complex investigations while supporting public trust, integrity, and safety.
Under the direction of the Supervising Investigator II (Area Commander), the Supervising Investigator I performs highly responsible investigative and supervisory duties. In accordance with Penal Code Section 13651, this role emphasizes community interaction and collaborative problem solving.
Pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 1655 and Penal Code Section 830.3, incumbents perform a full range of peace officer duties while overseeing sensitive and complex criminal investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct highly confidential and complex criminal investigations, including: Internal security matters, Employee misconduct, Document and records integrity, Public funds investigations, Office burglaries and system tampering, and other special criminal cases
- Represent DMV in multi-agency investigations involving: Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security, and other federal, state, and allied law enforcement agencies
- Provide criminal investigative testimony, witness services, and advisory support to: State and Federal courts, DMV legal staff, and other law enforcement agencies
- Perform full peace officer duties, including: Effecting and assisting in arrests, Issuing misdemeanor and registration violation citations, Serving and assisting with search warrants
- Supervise and guide investigative activities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and department policies
- Perform related duties as required
