Role Description
Unwin Company is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our small, highly capable, in-house IT team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have real ownership of systems, direct impact on users, and a voice in how our environment evolves.
What You’ll Do:
• Support and maintain our Windows and Linux server environments
• Administer Active Directory, Exchange, and Microsoft 365
• Manage VMware, storage systems, switches, and firewalls
• Troubleshoot user issues and provide responsive support
• Oversee system lifecycle: deployment, patching, upgrades, and retirement
• Maintain hardware and software inventory
• Support VoIP systems
• Monitor logs, alerts, and security advisories
• Work with vendors and support teams
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies
• Create and improve documentation, standards, and processes
• Support remote users with secure tools
Requirements:
• 5+ years of systems or network administration experience
• Strong troubleshooting and problem ownership skills
• Experience with Windows and Linux systems, networking, and firewalls
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Positive, curious mindset and willingness to learn
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q security clearance
Nice to Have (but not required):
• Active security clearance
• Palo Alto firewall experience
• Scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
• Web application development and SQL Server experience
• OS deployment and software packaging
• PKI (PIV/CAC)
• Familiarity with NIST, DISA, CMMC, or similar standards
