Systems Administrator

Role Summary
The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and improving Salem One’s IT infrastructure and production‑critical systems. This role supports both internal employees and external partners while ensuring the availability, performance, and security of systems that directly enable commercial print production and customer delivery.
The Systems Administrator plays a hands‑on role in day‑to‑day operations, project execution, and incident response, with a strong focus on uptime, customer service, and business continuity in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Objectives of the Role
- Support internal employees and external partners with responsive, high‑quality IT service
- Maintain and secure core IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, endpoints, and cloud systems
- Ensure availability and performance of print production, workflow, and business‑critical systems
- Own and deliver projects and technical solutions that support larger business initiatives
- Enable efficient, reliable business processes through system automation, monitoring, and reporting
- Partner with internal teams, vendors to deliver positive technology outcomes
- Contribute to company‑wide initiatives that improve operational performance, reliability, and scalability
Key Responsibilities
User Support & Service Delivery
- Serve as the primary on‑site point of contact for IT support for employees and authorized external users
- Provide timely problem resolution with a strong focus on customer service and production impact
- Perform help desk and advanced troubleshooting to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
- Maintain technical documentation, service catalogs, procedures, and system diagrams
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Administer servers and core services including MS 365, Active Directory, user/group management, security permissions, Group Policy, print services, and file systems
- Monitor system health, performance, logs, and alerts; investigate and resolve warnings and errors
- Perform routine and scheduled system audits, including backups, patching, and access reviews
- Build, test, deploy, and maintain physical and virtual servers as business needs evolve
Production & Print Systems Support
- Support and maintain print‑related systems, including:
- Print MIS and scheduling platforms
- Prepress and workflow automation systems
- File storage and high‑throughput data environments
- Web‑to‑print and customer‑facing applications
- Provide IT support for production floor technology, including press‑adjacent PCs, finishing systems, scanners, barcode systems, and related infrastructure
- Respond quickly to production‑impacting incidents to minimize downtime and protect customer delivery commitments
- Coordinate system changes and maintenance windows to minimize disruption to production schedules
Network, Security & Endpoint Management
- Maintain internal infrastructure including servers, laptops, desktops, printers, phones, routers, switches, firewalls, and security tools
- Support and monitor internet, intranet, LAN, WAN, VPN, and segmented production networks
- Apply security updates, patches, and best practices to protect systems and data
- Assist with incident response, vulnerability mitigation, and security audits
Projects, Vendors & Partnerships
- Take ownership of IT projects and contribute technical leadership to cross‑functional initiatives
- Act as the single point of contact for key technology vendors
- Coordinate deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, and vendor support activities
- Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven success in a hands‑on IT systems, infrastructure, or systems administration role
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex technical issues under pressure
- Experience supporting IT systems in a production or manufacturing environment with high uptime requirements
- Working knowledge of:
- Windows Server and endpoint operating systems
- Active Directory and identity management
- Virtualization platforms (VMware ESXi, Hyper‑V)
- Enterprise backup and disaster recovery-Veeam
- System monitoring and performance tools
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S)
- Experience with project execution, system integration, and cloud‑hosted services
- Ability to support large file workflows and bandwidth‑intensive applications
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree (or higher) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, ITIL, MCSE, MCITP, or related credentials
- Experience in the commercial print or manufacturing industry
- Familiarity with print MIS, prepress, RIPs, variable data print, or production workflow platforms
- Understanding of IT/OT boundaries in a manufacturing or production environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in office and production floor environments as needed
