As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our IT team.
Position Summary
The Senior IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and improvement of the organization’s IT infrastructure, systems, and end-user services. This role serves as the primary technical resource within the IT department, working directly under the CIO to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in networking, infrastructure, and security with a willingness to develop leadership, business communication, and strategic planning skills over time.
The first four weeks of this role will be spent in cross-functional business immersion, working alongside the brokerage and logistics operations teams to develop a thorough understanding of the business before engaging with IT systems. This is by design — the best technology leaders understand the business they serve.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure and Network Management
- Manage and maintain the organization’s network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, and wireless systems
- Administer server environments (physical and virtual), including patching, monitoring, and performance optimization
- Ensure high availability and reliability of all production systems and business-critical applications
- Manage and improve network security posture, including firewall rules, segmentation, and access controls
- Maintain and expand documentation for all infrastructure, topology, and configuration standards
- Manage and maintain relevant SAAS, Tools, software applications
Systems Administration and End-User Support
- Administer Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive
- Manage identity and access management (Azure AD / Entra ID, SSO, MFA, Conditional Access policies)
- Oversee endpoint management and device lifecycle using Intune or equivalent MDM solutions
- Serve as the senior escalation point for IT support issues across the organization
Cybersecurity
- Implement and maintain security tools and practices, including EDR, email security, and vulnerability management
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including backup management and recovery testing
- Coordinate with fractional CISO and third-party security providers on security program execution
- Monitor security alerts and respond to incidents per established protocols
Vendor and Project Support
- Assist in vendor relationship management for IT services, software, and hardware
- Execute technology projects as directed by the CIO, including planning, deployment, and user training
- Support budget tracking and provide input on IT spending priorities
- Assist in evaluating and recommending new tools, platforms, and services
Team Collaboration
- Work alongside IT support team members, providing technical guidance and mentorship
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand technology needs and deliver solutions
- Participate in cross-functional projects that intersect technology and business operations
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- 10+ years of IT experience across infrastructure, networking, systems administration, and cybersecurity
- Strong expertise in Cisco networking (routing/switching, VPN, firewall management, ISE)
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and Azure AD / Entra ID (formal training provided)
- Experience with federal compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST,CMMC) or equivalent regulatory environments
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Strong documentation habits and commitment to process standardization
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to serve as senior technical escalation point
Preferred:
- Experience in logistics, brokerage, or high-volume operations environments
- Team lead or supervisory experience in an IT environment
- Familiarity with endpoint management platforms (Intune, SCCM)
- Experience with IT service management frameworks (ITIL)
- Active certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, VCP, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
Availability:
Given the importance of building strong relationships and visibility across the organization, this role begins with a higher in-office presence and transitions to a consistent hybrid schedule once established.
- First 60–90 Days: Onsite 5 days per week to learn the environment, build trust with stakeholders, and establish a strong operational foundation.
- Post Ramp-Up: Hybrid schedule of approximately 3 days per week onsite, with flexibility based on business needs.
- Minimum Onsite Commitment: 24–30 hours per week onsite, with flexibility to increase during major initiatives, critical meetings, or operational needs.
- Remote Availability: Consistently reachable and responsive throughout the workday regardless of location. Remote flexibility supports faster response to after-hours incidents, maintenance windows, and time-sensitive project work.
Professional Development:
This role includes a $10,000 annual professional development budget to support training, certifications, and continuing education.
Priority training areas include: Microsoft 365 and Azure administration, identity and access management, endpoint management (Intune), IT leadership and management skills, and relevant industry certifications.
