Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator I is responsible for installing new software releases and system upgrades, evaluating and applying patches, and resolving software-related issues to ensure a stable server environment. The administrator also performs system backup and recovery, maintains data files, and monitors server configurations to ensure data integrity.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and administer all server operating systems and their associated software.
- Work with the Network Engineer to manage communication and connectivity solutions, including local area networks (LAN), company website, intranet, and internet applications.
- Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers, multiple databases, and data transfers.
- Allocate, distribute, and monitor server storage space.
- Assess the need for system reconfigurations (minor or major) and implement changes as necessary.
- Perform server asset management, including maintaining inventories, technical documentation, and component specifications.
- Perform and verify system backups.
- Monitor, test, and analyze server software performance; generate statistics and reports as needed.
- Install, configure, and maintain printer systems, RF scanners, thermal printers, and other peripheral hardware.
- Provide on-call technical support as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required
- Education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in Systems Administration.
- Technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows Server, UNIX, Linux, and Novell.
- Experience with backup software packages.
- Strong knowledge of local area network (LAN) administration.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Desired
- Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
- Professional experience with project management.
- Experience with Veritas NetBackup, SUSE Linux, Solaris, OES, and Domino.
Working Conditions:
- On-call availability.
- Ability to lift and transport moderately heavy objects (45–50 lbs), such as computers, peripherals, and batteries.
