IT - Information Security Manager
I was hired as OpenEye’s first Head of Information Security to establish standards and processes and serve as the primary point of contact for all information security related matters. I formalized, documented, and maintained a comprehensive information security program which included company-wide policies and procedures as well as a security training component for all staff plus phishing testing. I also ensured that the information security program met all compliance requirements. My position required me to collaborate with other teams on AWS and internal infrastructure security configurations
In addition I collaborated with IT on the configuration of endpoint security and network monitoring solutions, worked with the marketing and sales teams to answer prospective customer questions about security related topics, was involved in customer contract security requirements pre-signing and requirement tracking post-signing, and created public facing security focused whitepapers about our company and products.
2020 : 2022
OpenEye, Cadence Molecular Sciences
Head of Information Security
I was the sole direct report to the CIO/CISO responsible for IT security as well as IT compliance with all applicable department, state, and federal regulations and laws for both ongoing and planned projects, and also assisted with PCI compliance audit readiness. I managed endpoint security software, internal audit procedures related to security/compliance, the next-generation firewall, and a vulnerability management system. I also collaborated with the networking team on network security, and with the Application Development Section Lead to overhaul the security review process for promoting applications to production.
Other responsibilities included generating and analyzing regular network usage reports for IT leadership (including holding meetings to discuss possible actions to be taken) as well as monitored a SIEM system while continuously looking for improvements in log generation. In addition I authored and implemented an IT Incident Response Plan.
2018 : 2020
New Mexico Environment Department
IT Security and Compliance Administrator II
The position was reclassified due to a statewide reclassification of all IT positions, all job responsibilities stayed the same with the addition of webmaster responsibilities.
I led and managed a large-scale project to procure new asset management software and overhaul the department's asset management strategies in order to ensure proper inventory control as well as audit readiness. This also included proper tracking of asset depreciation following state regulations for the CFO. Other notable projects I initiated include selecting and procuring a backup and disaster recovery solution, and implementing a network monitoring and syslog alerting solution.
