About

James is the Chief Information Security Officer for SSI Group, with responsibilities that span the technology and service landscape of SSI Group’s Revenue Cycle Management solutions, clinical data subscription service and managed payer gateway services. James also oversees the security program at Springhill Medical Center, a 270 bed, technologically advanced, privately-owned hospital complex in Mobile, Alabama.



Preceding his current role, James was the Chief Information Security Officer for South Carolina where he led cyber strategy, security technology services, risk management and multi-disciplinary response coordination. During his time as State CISO, James was instrumental in the proliferation of security shared services, cloud technology adoption and executed a massive, multi-year upskilling of the state’s information security and privacy workforce, delivering thousands of training seats to the state.



James also served as Agency CISO for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services during a time of rapid program transformation and platform modernization. Notable accomplishments include publishing the organization’s strategic security plan, achieving the program’s first Federal Information Security Management Act, System Authorization under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and Committee Chair, statewide Cloud technology Security and Architecture Review Board.



James occupied multiple roles prior to his time within state government, most notably as a Soldier, where he received his most valued experience as a leader and member of a team. It was James’ time in the Army, through numerous stateside and overseas assignments, which developed his steadfast dedication to mission success through leadership, accountability, and continuous team development.



James is a graduate of Limestone University, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Systems Security and holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional credential.



James is married with a teenage son and 3 beautiful daughters. He loves spending time with his family, is a self-proclaimed, untrained but fiercely resolute yard maintenance engineer, enjoys hobby cars and playing a little Xbox from time to time.
