As the Information Security Officer (“ISO”) I am accountable to plan, implement, coordinate, and maintain the overall information security programs as well as cyber security of the institution. As the ISO I am the “champion” of information security for my bank and work closely with management. I constantly weigh business needs against security concerns, finding the right solution and balance to support the business and articulates any issues to management.

Based on FDIC FIL-44-2008, Guidance For Managing Third Party Risk I created the bank's internal vendor risk management program from the ground up. I developed a comprehensive framework of policies and procedures in collaboration with a third party consultant that easily assesses and assigns risk scores to vendors so that they can be managed accordingly. Mission critical vendors are identified and receive a higher level of scrutiny while lower risk vendors receive less. The program encompasses the full vendor lifecycle. This vendor risk management program has been in place since 2012 and has been subjected to numerous audits by internal examiners as well as external examiners and has benefitted from compliments from state examiners as well as FDIC examiners. This vendor risk management program is exceptionally mature. The vendor risk management program is unique and can be scaled up or down depending upon the size and complexity of the institution and its vendor portfolio.

About
I am a seasoned community banker. I am an expert in project management with an emphasis on community banking technology products and services.
I have worn many hats in my 35+ years of community banking -- problem solver, fact gatherer/researcher, negotiator, independent thinker, development team member, strategist, trainer, project manager, committee member, counselor, and futurist. As a result, I have a unique ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and to navigate complex challenges. But my actual experience has taught me that my professional value boils down to the following:
-I am a curious being, attracted to leading edge community banking technology products and services and have been for my entire career.
-I dissect things in order to get to know and understand things. Understanding means fewer missteps and missteps cost money.
-I have BIG ideas. Big ideas require execution and execution is what matters and I DO execution.
-I run full steam ahead into fires.
-I am a man of unbending principles, the first of which is to be flexible.
