Experience:
Employed by the Department of Commerce Census Bureau's National Processing Center (NPC), I am responsible for the safety and security of all private and business information gathered by the Census Bureau. Network infrastructure, server, database, and application-level measures are continuously monitored by our work center for NIST and FISMA standards compliance. I am responsible for ensuring that all applicable security controls are implemented by the IT staff and that supporting artifacts are relevant and current. We perform scheduled and random system and component security scans utilizing the NESSUS tool to ensure information system security control compliance and vulnerability mitigation.
Cyber policy violation investigations are a periodic duty that our office undertakes to ensure employees are in compliance with federal and local IT standards for device usage and cyber conduct. Creating and sustaining all local IT auditing, account, and configuration management policies and procedures is a continuous process that I perform as needed. Participating in contingency operations and assisting in authority to test and authority to operate approvals is a critical responsibility of our office that provides our agency the appropriate level of IT security consideration.
Forming and nurturing a cooperative and persistent working relationship with Microsoft SQL/Oracle database and Red Hat Linux/Microsoft Windows workstation and server administrators to mitigate security control findings is a crucial role that we perform on a daily basis at NPC. Our goal is not to merely identify security scan findings, but to create a preventive security posture that exceeds industry standards, while still achieving optimal operational performance. In light of numerous security breaches in both the civilian and government sectors, I take my data protection role very seriously, by ensuring that every known protective measure is in place and updated on a regular basis.
