Deputy Chief Information Security Officer
Nick served as the Agency's chief information security officer (CISO) and was responsible for the Agency's overall information security posture, having authority for information security for the entire agency. He interpreted information security policy and guidance from the State of Texas and Texas A&M University System and developed, recommended and maintained agency-wide information security plans and information security rules and procedures to implement such policy and guidance. Nick worked with and provided guidance and assistance to senior agency officials and agency staff concerning their responsibilities to information security policies, monitored the effectiveness of defined controls for mission critical information, verified that appropriate security controls were in place for all major information resources projects, and reported to the agency director on the status and effectiveness of information resources security controls.

Nick administered Windows, Linux and VMware servers hosting web-based applications and websites both internal and external to the agency. He also administered and coordinated for network connectivity to servers, served as backup Active Directory, Exchange, BlackBerry and Cisco Unified Communications administrator, and assisted the agency information security officer in the planning and execution of the agency's information security program.

TSgt McLarty last served as Non-commissioned Officer in Charge, Combat Arms Training, 433d Security Forces Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. As the non-commissioned officer in charge, he led, managed, supervised, and implemented ground weapons training programs for the 433d Airlift Wing. Other assignments included information and personnel security program management to protect national security information from unauthorized disclosure, security forces operations flight assignments where he performed military law enforcement duties and an Aerospace Expeditionary Force (AEF) deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he participated in air base ground defense.
Sergeant McLarty also served as a Reserve Assistance NCO to the Civil Air Patrol-United States Air Force (CAP-USAF) Southwest Liaison Region. In this capacity, Sergeant McLarty was responsible for providing advice and assistance to CAP; liaison between CAP, the Air Force, and other governmental agencies; and oversight of CAP in fulfilling its Air Force-assigned missions, with particular emphasis on safety and programmatic requirements.

Nick served as the police department's communications systems manager, responsible for administering the District's multi-site public safety radio communications system, the agency's mission-critical computing resources, geographic information systems, and computer assisted dispatching and records management system. Nick also produced all agency activity and crime reports and analyses, and ensured agency compliance with the National Incident Management System.

As the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer at The Texas A&M University System, Nick oversees the cybersecurity activities for one of the largest and most diverse higher education systems in the nation. He has more than 16 years of experience in information and physical security and emergency management, with a strong background in military and law enforcement.
Nick is passionate about protecting the information assets and resources of the A&M System and its members, as well as enhancing the security awareness and culture of the academic and research community. He collaborates with various stakeholders and customers to develop and implement effective and innovative security solutions that align with the System's mission and goals.
