About
My name is Rhiannan Andrade and I am re-entering the workforce after 12 years of absence. Those years were spent overcoming cancer and performing the hardest and most important job I will ever have, being a mother. My children are neurodiverse, one having autism, the other ADHD, and it became evident they would need my full attention. I put my career on hold for their benefit and became a teacher, therapist, taxi driver and biggest cheerleader. All the sacrifices proved worth it, because they are now thriving and successful. One has their sights set on becoming a cybersecurity developer and the other currently works as a cybersecurity engineer. I’ve learned that nothing is more rewarding than being a parent!
Currently I am an independent contractor in the identity access management and GRC space. I recently started my own LLC and will be debuting it soon. I entered the cybersecurity space because my husband has been in it for over 8 years after spending 17 years prior in IT. Observing how much he enjoys his work with his and our daughter’s encouragement, I delved into it myself! I enjoy my work because I believe in helping companies ensure their systems are as secure as possible. If I do my job correctly, that will be one less vulnerable company in the world.
I hold an (ISC)2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certification and have been trained in SailPoint non-employee lifecycle management tool (formerly SecZetta). I already have sights on my next certification and am actively working towards that goal. I recently completed the ISC2 Risk Management Certificate courses and am working on the Healthcare Security courses. My interests in cybersecurity reside in identity, governance, and risk management. I seek out education that will strengthen and expand my knowledge and skillsets. The further I pursue cybersecurity education, the more fascinating I find it and the more motivated I am to keep pushing forward towards my goals.
My passion is to advocate for those who cannot, or are limited in their ability to, advocate for themselves. I am a strong supporter of neurodiversity education and broader diversity in tech and cybersecurity roles. I also believe in empowering girls and women in STEM and am a part of Women in Technology and Women in Cybersecurity groups. I am optimistic that with education, advocacy and a willingness to listen and learn, we can make careers in technology and cybersecurity attainable for all.
