Details
I have already developed transformation plans and a roadmap, including a model to guide the shift to Agile development as well as a change management plan for leadership. I also led a high-impact prioritization event which resulted in the de-prioritization of 40 projects in order to pivot towards higher value work.
In addition, I was asked to map a clear learning path for cybersecurity employees and led a 12-person agile team to improve content and accessibility while cutting cost-per-employee by over 90%.
2017 : Present
GE Digital
Digital Transformation Leader for Cybersecurity and Risk
In this role, I coached the leadership team and global Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) through the entire 2020 strategic planning and prioritization process, leveraging my coaching skills to encourage disruption and innovation in strategic planning.
Our monthly, off-site multi-day strategic “deep dive” meetings resulted in the digital business’s first-ever VSEM style strategic plan (Vision, Strategy, Execution, Measure).
2016 : 2017
GE Digital
Enterprise Transformation Coach
As Process Manager, I overhauled outdated legacy processes for the commercial banking business while helping to improve employee morale. I worked cross-organizationally to drive change and adoption of agile infrastructure. I also served as an Innovation Ambassador across the organization and an SME in Agile, Transformation, Culture, and Innovation.
Successes included developing and executing the transformation and re-branding of the PMO, leading the shift to Agile (jncluding building internal support) and engineering a shift to supply-based budgeting within a tight timeframe.
2014 : 2016
Capital One
Portfolio Process Manager and Transformation Leader
I was hand-selected for this promotion to Agile Transformation Train (ART) Product Manager to lead our train of 120 on the digital transformation of a 3,000- person IT organization. The team designed processes, products and solutions to speed the adoption of agile and modernize the company's digital practices.
Despite a lack of prior experience in this methodology, I led a successful transition from waterfall to Agile, managing through the restructuring while delivering scheduled products on time/on budget. Key to this success was the innovation culture I built by providing training to all employees on Stanford's Design Thinking, creating fun challenges, and instilling a new approach to problem solving.
2013 : 2014
Capital One
Product Owner and Agile Coach
In this role, I managed releases for the massive integration of 11,000 HSBC customers into Capital One’s book of branded business. I also played a key role in the transformation of the card businesses from waterfall to Agile delivery.
During this time, I won the National Innovation Contest In Technology (a first for Capital One) with my design for an innovative app to revolutionize family banking.
2013 : 2013
Capital One
Release Manager - mergers and acquisitions
About
I am currently Digital Transformation Leader for Cybersecurity & Risk with GE Digital, where I am building a team of change agents and coaches to drive a major operational and cultural transformation.
I was recruited by GE because of my prior expertise in leading major digital/business transformations with Capital One (see below).
I’m an expert in changing organizational behaviors and building cultures of innovation and speed and I’m passionate about the exciting - and seemingly unlimited - opportunities offered by new technologies. I’ve gained extensive experience in driving change through established, complex companies where it’s essential to gain employee buy-in before attempting to change anything. I’ve consistently been able to build enthusiasm and excitement, even when the initial attitudes to change were negative. The keys to my success have been my ability to create a clear vision, develop effective branding and communication plans, gain the trust of senior executive leaders, and engage employees in all aspects of the change.
Colleagues and employees know me as a flexible, results-focused and strategic executive who builds top-performing groups and earns the respect of colleagues, employees and managers. I have a documented history of devising innovative solutions to thorny problems and driving efficiencies through new processes and systems.
I’m always keen to reconnect with former colleagues or make new business connections, so please feel free to reach me via this page or by email at sjwestmo@gmail.com.
