Science & Technology / High Performance Computing
Supported a range of services and initiatives in the HPC research computing environment. Developed capabilities to streamline HPC and Wintel operations. Also, identified global research opportunities to automate and improve existing research processes. Spearheaded multiple storage projects and initiatives to increase HPC job throughput and reduce storage costs. Mentored new team members on new technologies and was valued as a technical resource within the organization.
Accomplishments :
• Spearheaded requirements gathering across global research and led a small team that developed a Large Data Transport Facility for the Science & Technology organizations. The solution overcame significant technical challenges associated with sharing data across untrusted domains and poor network performance. The deliverable was completed at no cost to DuPont by using open-source software on Linux paired with Java/PHP code and shell scripts.
• Created ETL processes to extract and load data for several custom built web reporting front-ends. One deliverable was critical to a Six Sigma Black Belt project that helped DuPont save $1.2MM in licensing costs.
• Developed a Web 2.0 front-end to streamline the account management processes, enabling operations staff to easily perform required daily tasks while freeing up engineer FTE.
• Built and deployed the first Hadoop cluster for research.
• Created a business proposal, obtained buy-in, and built a highly scalable long-term data storage solution that was significantly lower in cost. The design was based on a widely adopted open-source storage framework.
• Developed a unique user-driven data archive process for R&D research to reduce primary storage consumption by 50%. The solution provided researchers an ability to store large data sets for long periods of time without impacting production availability and without increasing costs.
