Sue Commanda is the Chief Executive Officer of Hudson River Community Credit Union, a member-owned financial cooperative with assets in excess of $340 million. HRCCU serves 32,000 members in Warren, Washington, Saratoga and Rensselaer Counties as well as the towns of Cohoes, Green Island and Watervliet. Commanda began her career as a Corporate Auditor with Key Bank in Albany New York where she developed an intricate understanding of financial systems and analytics. After working in banking for a few years, Sue advanced her career to the credit union industry and worked for the New York State Credit Union League (NYSCUL) for 14 years. Sue had a progressive career at NYSCUL starting as a consultant and rounding out her tenure as the Vice President of Strategic Consulting & Member Services. Sue became proficient in Strategic Planning, Profitability & Market Analysis, Education & Training and management. Sue’s staff was located across the state and worked with credit unions of all sizes.
In 2003 Sue was recruited to the position of Chief Financial Officer at Hudson River Community Credit Union and was designated the successor to the CEO’s role. As CEO, she has grown the credit union to almost 4 times its size in 18 years while maintaining a 5 star rating from industry analysts. HRCCU is frequently noted as a top performing community-oriented institution.
Sue was awarded the Women of Excellence Award from the Albany/Colonie Regional Chamber in 2012 as well as the Saratoga Woman of Influence Award. Sue also serves on the National Community Credit Union Committee monitoring legislative issues and operational challenges for community credit unions across the country providing feedback on pending federal legislation and providing research and resources to assist community credit unions.
