Job SummaryThe Systems Administrator is responsible for securely administering, configuring, and supporting enterprise systems within a high-security environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining system reliability, ensuring compliance with government security standards, and supporting stakeholders through effective system operations. Key responsibilities include system administration and hardening, security compliance and risk mitigation, and documentation and stakeholder support.
Key Responsibilities• Administer and securely configure multiple operating system distributions in accordance with security and compliance standards
• Provide operational support for systems, servers, and hardware while engaging stakeholders through a formal ticketing system
• Oversee system installation and configuration to ensure compliance with government and regulatory requirements
• Generate, maintain, and update system, security, and process documentation
• Identify, respond to, and remediate system and network security vulnerabilities
• Implement, test, and support new and emerging technologies using security best practices
• Conduct risk assessments and document residual risks along with required mitigation strategies
• Present system and network security concepts and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences
• Support the implementation of policies, procedures, and configurations and recommend continuous improvements
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant systems administration experience
• Experience supporting systems in a high-security or regulated environment
• Mid-to-senior level technical background with hands-on systems administration experience
Special Requirements• Active, fully adjudicated SECRET clearance (Tier 3)
• Ability to obtain and maintain information security certifications such as Security+, CASP+, or CySA+
• U.S. citizenship required
• Ability to successfully complete a government security investigation and pre-employment drug screening
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities• Strong knowledge of secure system administration in Windows and Linux environments
• Familiarity with NIST and ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements (e.g., NIST 800-171/53, CMMC)
• Experience with systems integration in heterogeneous network environments
• Ability to operate and support systems in a high-security research or enterprise computing environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on risk mitigation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to document technical processes clearly and accurately
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to security best practices
Additional Desired Characteristics• Experience automating management of Windows and Linux systems
• Virtualization experience (e.g., VMware platforms)
• Experience developing secure system baseline configurations
• Familiarity with directory services and authentication tools (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory, Group Policy)
• Experience with enterprise storage solutions
• Experience with systems management tools (e.g., SCCM, configuration management platforms)
