Information Systems Team Lead

We are seeking an Infrastructure Team Lead who provides technical direction, mentoring, and operational oversight for an enterprise environment that includes Windows and Linux servers, VMware ESXi hosts, Cohesity clusters, NetApp and Pure Storage arrays, and Entra ID. The role emphasizes architectural alignment, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration. While this role does not conduct employee performance evaluations, it focuses on fostering team growth, effectively prioritizing workloads, and guiding technical decisions in accordance with the manager’s directives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Mentoring
· Serve as subject matter expert and the technical escalation point.
· Mentor team members through design reviews, troubleshooting, and skill development.
· Oversee the day-to-day activities of the team, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed efficiently.
· Coordinate with the Manager to align team efforts with organizational goals and project timelines.
· Monitor workloads, redistribute tasks as needed, and ensure deadlines are met.
· Promote best practices across servers, storage, backups, virtualization, and identity services.
2. Operational & Technical Ownership
· Oversee management of the Windows & Linux server environments, Proxmox and VMware ESXi hosts.
· Provide directions for Cohesity, NetApp, and Pure Storage platforms.
· Support the administration and maturity of Entra ID.
· Ensure reliable backup, replication, DR, and service restoration processes.
· Support design, testing, and documentation of system and cloud services.
· Drive automation initiatives aligned with operational standards.
· Review work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
· Identify opportunities for process improvement and share best practices.
· Support the implementation of new tools, technologies, and workflows.
· Handle daily operational tickets and contribute to assigned projects.
3. Collaboration & Communication
· Maintain open lines of communication within the team and with other departments.
· Partner with Enterprise Services, InfoSec, and Site Support teams.
· Translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions.
· Communicate risks, timelines, and project impacts to the Manager.
· Facilitate regular team meetings, share updates, and ensure everyone is informed of priorities and changes.
4. Strategic & Roadmap Influence
· Influence infrastructure modernization initiatives.
· Advocate for standards, lifecycle policies, and continuous improvement.
· Assist in selecting new hardware, software, and cloud services.
5. Performance Monitoring
· Track team delivery and progress against technical and operational goals.
· Provide constructive feedback and recognize outstanding contributions.
· Support the Manager in conducting performance reviews and addressing performance issues.
6. Monitoring, Optimization & Incident Response
· Use monitoring tools to identify issues proactively.
· Optimize infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency.
· Lead response to high-severity operational and security incidents.
7. Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and changes.
· Prepare clear and timely reports to keep stakeholders informed and to support audits, while ensuring all documentation aligns with established policies and standards.
8. Security and Compliance
· Promote and enforce security best practices within the team.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Skills
· Virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, VMWare VDI Horizon
· Cloud: AWS, Microsoft Azure.
· Identity: Entra ID & on-prem Active Directory.
· Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
· Core infrastructure services: AD, DNS, GPO, and DHCP.
· Windows & Linux OS administration/Troubleshooting.
· Backup & storage: Cohesity, Veeam, NetApp, Pure.
· Automation/scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell.
· Monitoring: Zabbix, Grafana, SolarWinds.
Physical Requirements
· Prolonged computer use.
· Occasional lifting of IT equipment up to 40 lbs.
Travel Requirements
· Travel may be necessary, typically ranging from 10% to 15%.
Leadership & Operational Skills
· Strong troubleshooting ability
· Experience with task prioritization and delegation.
· Experience building skills matrices and mentoring teams.
· Experience with ITIL framework and best practices for Change, Incident, and Problem Management.
· Experience in architecting and managing infrastructure.
· Strong knowledge & experience in business sites and processes.
· Experience supporting disaster recovery, high-availability architectures, and enterprise security frameworks is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
· B.S. degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field.
· 5+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, including 3+ years in a lead role.
· Demonstrated expertise in creating and maintaining comprehensive operational procedures, service level agreements (SLAs), and detailed knowledge articles.
· Proven experience leading server, storage, Backup and Virtualization technologies.
