JOB POSITION: Systems Administrator
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or similar discipline.
- 30 Hours of post-secondary coursework, preferably in technology or a related field.
- Professional certification may be used in lieu of a bachelor's degree at the sole discretion of the Head of Technology
(i.e., Microsoft Certified Systems Administers (MCSA)/Engineer (MCSE), Certified Systems Administrator (CSA),
Windows Server Enterprise Administrator (MCITP), and etc.).
- 1 Year of experience working with Microsoft Networks across Local Area Networks (LANS), Wide Area Networks
(WANS), and Metropolitan Area Networks (MANS).
- Experience with or knowledge of programming languages and operating systems; current equipment and
technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, systems performance-monitoring tools, active directory,
virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, caching.
- Knowledge of Unix system administration.
- Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures.
- Professional work experience understanding and working with various operating systems.
- Ability to work with several departments to facilitate the completion of a project plan.
Preferred
- Bachelor degree.
- Experience with various types of hardware and software, in an educational environment.
- Experience working with training adults preferred.
JOB GOAL:
Responsible for administration of the district's servers (including all virtual machines), operating systems, educational software, and cloud-based software solutions that runs on said servers), computer systems (including Chromebooks), and various other electronic teacher aids (i.e., smartboards, document cameras, etc.).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Promotes an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
- Plans for and manages the resources for which he/she is responsible, including personnel, finances, facilities, programs, and time.
- Works with IT Systems Manager, Systems Engineer, and Security Engineer to build, maintain, and backs up servers, and various other mission critical systems.
- Updates, removes, and creates Identification badges for district staff.
- Updates, removes, and creates security access for the district staff.
- Communicates accurately and effectively to all staff.
- Provides for the installation, setup, management, repair and support of the district's data, phone, and video networks (this includes security).
- Provides training for the district's data, phone, and video networks (this includes security).
- Provides for the installation, setup, repair and support of personal computers and software.
- Creates, Maintains, and Administers the district's syslog server.
- Instructs personnel as needed in the use of hardware and software for various electronic equipment.
- Maintains and develops Carlsbad Municipal School District network storage and backups for disaster recovery purposes.
- Manages and Maintains Carlsbad Municipal School District iPads, and JAMF (Apple Management) Software.
- Maintains Mitel phone system (extensions, DID number, voicemail, etc.).
- Facilitates repairs of district owned equipment.
- Assist district staff with quotes for technology purchases.
- Develop departmental operating procedures.
- Provides preventative maintenance of servers and district wide software.
- Assists with district-wide technology maintenance/support renewals (Software, online subscriptions, etc.).
- Helps prepare the Districts Technology Plan.
- Assists with the AS400 operations and its network connections.
- Travels to various server sites to provide maintenance as needed.
- Provides training for various curriculum and management programs as needed.
- Provides support for the investigation of improper use of the district computers, networks, E-mail, and Internet Services.
- Must be willing to be on call 24/7 365 as needed.
- All other functions as determined by the Head of Technology, the IT Systems Manager, or the Superintendent.
