NewCo is a healthcare AI startup building payment integrity solutions for self-funded employers, TPAs, and health plans. We're a VC-backed early-stage startup led by experienced healthcare technology professionals, and we're building something transformative in the $4+ trillion U.S. healthcare market.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We're seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead the technical development of NewCo's platform from MVP through production deployment and enterprise scale. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll architect and build our core systems, establish engineering best practices, and eventually grow and manage a world-class engineering team.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Architecture & Development
· Design and implement the technical architecture for NewCo's claims editing platform
· Build the core claims processing engine with configurable rule sets and AI-powered detection algorithms
· Develop conversational AI interface for policy configuration and natural language interaction
· Implement medical coding rules CMS, AMA, and other industry-standard data sources.
· Establish data ingestion pipelines for claims data, medical records, and healthcare interoperability standards
· Create robust reporting and analytics systems for savings projection and audit trails
Product Development Leadership
· Translate business requirements into technical specifications and implementation roadmaps
· Own the technical roadmap across three development phases: MVP foundation, production readiness, and enterprise scale
· Make critical technology stack decisions balancing speed, scalability, and cost
· Implement automated compliance update systems to maintain current coding guidelines
· Build API infrastructure for customer data integration and third-party tool connectivity
Team Building & Management
· Recruit, hire, and mentor engineering talent as the team grows
· Establish engineering culture, development processes, and quality standards
· Collaborate with CEO on technical aspects of customer implementations and sales presentations
· Provide technical leadership in investor presentations and fundraising activities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Expertise
· 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in technical leadership roles
· Strong full-stack development capabilities (backend systems, APIs, databases, frontend)
· Experience building AI/ML systems, particularly NLP and conversational interfaces
· Proven ability to architect scalable systems from ground up
· Proficiency in modern development languages and frameworks (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, cloud platforms)
· Proficiency in AWS and related cloud-based tools
Healthcare Technology Experience (Preferred)
· Understanding of healthcare claims processing, medical coding, or payment systems
· Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, X12 837/835)
· Knowledge of CMS guidelines, ICD-10, CPT, or DRG systems
· Experience with healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2)
Leadership & Startup Experience
· Track record of building products from 0 to 1 in startup or fast-paced environments
· Experience wearing multiple hats and working with limited resources
· Strong communication skills for translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
· Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort in ambiguity and rapid iteration

COMPENSATION & EQUITY
Full-Time Employment:
· $120,000 base salary with flexibility in later funding rounds
· Above market equity (stock options with standard 4-year vesting, 1-year cliff)

You'll be leading technical development across three phases:
Phase 1 (Months 1-3) - MVP Foundation
Phase 2 (Months 4-6) – MVP Production Readiness
Phase 3 (Months 7-8+) – Scale for Enterprise Use
