Compliance & Data Privacy Counsel
Duration: 12-week contract
Location: Miami, Florida
Our client is seeking an experienced Associate Counsel, Compliance & Data Privacy to support and advance its enterprise-wide Privacy Program during a 12-week contract engagement. This role will play a key part in strengthening privacy, data protection, and artificial intelligence compliance efforts across the organization, while enabling the business to operate responsibly, compliantly, and in alignment with evolving global regulatory requirements.
The Associate Counsel will serve as a strategic legal partner to cross-functional stakeholders, helping shape privacy-forward practices, mitigate regulatory risk, and translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support the development and execution of privacy, data protection, and AI compliance strategies in connection with enterprise-wide contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with legal risk management and business objectives.
• Advise senior leadership and business teams on new and evolving initiatives, assessing compliance with global privacy, data protection, and artificial intelligence regulations.
• Provide strategic oversight for consumer-facing communications and marketing initiatives to ensure compliance with consumer protection, advertising, and digital engagement laws.
• Partner cross-functionally on incident response matters, including complex data breach investigations and regulatory reporting, in collaboration with cybersecurity, digital experience, and data governance teams.
• Monitor and analyze global privacy and AI regulatory developments, translating legal changes into actionable guidance for the business.
• Support the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of privacy and AI governance frameworks, including policies, procedures, data handling standards, and stakeholder communications.
• Develop and deliver targeted training and awareness initiatives to reinforce a culture of privacy, accountability, and responsible AI use across the organization.
• Oversee key Privacy Office initiatives, including privacy impact assessments, AI risk assessments, website tracking audits, website tracking audits, and data subject rights processes under applicable global regulations.
• Perform additional related duties as required during the contract period.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Admission to at least one U.S. state bar and in good standing.
Experience
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience in an in-house or law firm setting.
• Experience negotiating commercial contracts, with a preference for candidates who have negotiated privacy and data protection provisions.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or managing privacy programs, policies, and processes.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws and compliance program requirements, including GDPR and CCPA; familiarity with artificial intelligence regulations such as the EU AI Act is highly desirable.
• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to business and technical stakeholders, including through training and presentations.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and judgment skills, with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
• Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
• Hands-on experience with privacy management platforms, particularly OneTrust, is required.
• Familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance tools such as NAVEX or D&B Risk Analytics is a plus.
