Summary:
VDOT is seeking an experienced System Administrator to support the Transportation Operations Center. The role requires creativity and multitasking to independently and collaboratively achieve department service and support objectives. The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and related infrastructure in accordance with Commonwealth policies, standards, and guidelines.
Required Skills:
- Experience configuring and deploying Linux (RedHat) and Windows Operating System servers – 5 Years.
- Desktop, laptop, and server hardware experience – 5 Years.
- Active Directory administration – 5 Years.
- Virtualization / VMware experience – 5 Years.
- Backup and recovery experience – 5 Years.
- Help desk support (Tier 1–3) – 5 Years.
- Strong customer service skills – 5 Years.
Preferred Skills:
- Cybersecurity experience – 2 Years.
- Hands-on experience with network equipment – 3 Years.
- Experience with video management systems – 2 Years.
- Microsoft or related technical certifications – Nice to have.
- Audio-Video support experience – Nice to have.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to Tier 1–3 support requests and break/fix issues for end-user resources.
- Configure and deploy new or replacement Linux (RedHat) and Windows servers.
- Configure and deploy new or replacement desktop and laptop equipment and peripherals.
- Maintain up-to-date project, architecture, inventory, and maintenance documentation.
- Monitor system resources and logs for anomalies and ensure system availability.
- Resolve connectivity issues between users and system resources.
- Maintain detailed change management history.
- Support cybersecurity controls, threat hunting, and mitigation efforts.
- Install, rebuild, and configure servers, hardware, services, storage, and directories per standards.
- Perform daily system monitoring, backups, archival, and recovery operations.
- Create, modify, and delete user accounts as requested.
- Apply OS patches, upgrades, and administrative tool updates.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software failures and coordinate resolution with stakeholders.
- Support GIS and Asset Management system software as required.
- Perform performance reporting, tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
