DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

Under the general oversight of the Section Chief/Unit Supervisor, this position is responsible for planning, installing, administering, and supporting technical resources for the enterprise server infrastructure. Enterprise server infrastructure includes server hardware, operating systems, system management software, data backup, system software, database management software, applications, storage, and application development tools.

This position provides customer service and consulting support on a broad array of services and participates in projects from genesis through implementation and completion. The incumbent will frequently work on projects that require strong customer service, effective communication, and the ability to work in a team environment.

The position involves implementing and using new technologies and requires the ability to function from an enterprise perspective while collaborating with technical staff, management, and other entities on technical design and business issues. The position is accountable for the quality of service provided to state agencies and partners.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Server Infrastructure Support

Install, test, and implement enterprise servers, backup/recovery platforms and clients, operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Linux), and virtualization systems such as VMware.
Maintain enterprise server hardware, OS software, virtualization platforms, and system software packages at supported release levels, including patching and security configuration.
Troubleshoot server storage and software issues; work with vendors and agency staff for resolution.
Maintain implementation schedules for hardware/software corrective maintenance.
Develop and maintain procedures for proper use and support of enterprise server systems.
Provide oversight and direction to vendors managing infrastructure services.
Collaborate with Security to implement compliant and balanced security practices.
Monitor server, storage, and application utilization; recommend performance and cost optimization improvements.
Maintain change management records, metrics, and reporting for shared IT infrastructure systems.
Participate in disaster recovery documentation, testing, and recovery strategy planning.

Consulting & Agency Support

Meet with agency customers to gather and understand infrastructure requirements.
Provide technical analysis, architecture recommendations, and detailed technical designs within standards.
Participate in enterprise task forces related to shared infrastructure.
Provide consulting on disaster recovery requirements and strategies.

Project Participation

Follow divisional project management and enterprise portfolio management policies.
Coordinate project tasks and participate on project teams under direction of a project manager.

Customer Service & Teamwork

Respond to customer inquiries, incidents, and service requests daily.
Develop project goals aligned with department and customer initiatives.
Maintain strong written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
Participate in on-call rotation for Windows/VMware teams, including weekend patching and maintenance activities.
