Role Title: Systems Administrator 2
Duration: 4 months contract
Work Location: Redmond, WA (3 days onsite)
Pay Rate: $50/hr on W2
Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to manage and maintain high‑performance compute (HPC) clusters on behalf of a research team, ensuring the environment remains secure, compliant, highly available, and fully operational so researchers are not blocked in their work.
Key projects: This role will contribute to a major migration of the high‑performance compute environment from a general corporate tenant to a custom Quantum tenant, in order to add an extra layer of security around the compute cluster.
Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain 2+ years of Linux systems administration experience, hands‑on work supporting high‑performance compute (HPC) environments, experience with distributed multi‑user systems, familiarity with Slurm for HPC job scheduling, and experience using automation tools such as Python and Terraform, along with a strong Linux terminal background and exposure to HPC offerings hosted in Azure.
We are looking for an HPC Software Engineering Contractor who can be onsite in Redmond at least 3x per week to join our team to help with designing, building, and maintaining High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, storage, and network systems for our Quantum Computing researchers. In addition, this role involves interacting with our users to troubleshoot issues with running simulations on our platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful deployment, security compliance and maintenance of these HPC clusters.
What is the ideal background of a candidate for this role?:
Familiarity with high-performance computing, both as a user and/or as a developer of parallel/accelerated applications.
Familiarity with scheduler (e.g., Slurm).
Familiarity with HPC offerings in Azure.
Familiarity with containers/microservices.
