AWS Infrastructure Architect
Location: Newark, NJ (Hybrid - 2 days onsite)

Position Overview
Contech Systems is seeking an experienced AWS Infrastructure Architect to support Client's enterprise cloud transformation. This architect will design secure, scalable, and compliant AWS infrastructure solutions that power mission‐critical applications serving millions of members across New Jersey. The role sits within Client's Enterprise Architecture organization and collaborates across cloud engineering, security, DevOps, and application delivery teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Architecture & Design
- Architect enterprise‐grade AWS infrastructure aligned with Client's cloud strategy, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Design multi‐account landing zones, VPC architectures, network segmentation, IAM frameworks, and encryption models.
- Develop reusable reference architectures, patterns, and templates for consistent cloud adoption across the organization.
- Lead architecture for containerized workloads using EKS, ECS, Fargate, and supporting services.
Infrastructure Engineering & Automation
- Build and optimize Infrastructure‐as‐Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK) for scalable, repeatable deployments.
- Partner with DevOps teams to design CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS native tooling.
- Implement observability frameworks leveraging CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or enterprise monitoring platforms.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all AWS solutions meet HIPAA, PHI, and Client's internal security and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with Security Architecture to implement guardrails, policy enforcement, and automated compliance checks.
- Conduct architecture reviews, risk assessments, and remediation planning for cloud workloads.
Enterprise Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Application Development, Data Engineering, and Security teams to align cloud solutions with business and technical strategy.
- Participate in technology evaluations, RFP processes, and proof‐of‐concept initiatives.
- Produce high‐quality architectural documentation including C1-C4 diagrams, solution blueprints, and decision records.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineering teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture with deep hands‐on AWS expertise.
- Strong background in enterprise networking, security architecture, and cloud governance.
- Expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, container orchestration, and service mesh patterns.
- Proficiency with IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK) and CI/CD pipeline design.
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare preferred).
- Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization and FinOps principles.
- Ability to translate business requirements into secure, scalable cloud architectures.
- Experience producing architectural documentation using Visio, Draw.io, or Lucidchart.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Solutions Architect - Professional or Specialty certifications.
- Experience with OpenShift (OCP), Kafka, or event‐driven architectures.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7).
- Experience with hybrid or multi‐cloud environments.
- Background in Zero Trust architecture and identity federation.
