Scope of Project
Virginia State University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is seeking an IT Governance & Compliance Analyst (AI) to strengthen institutional compliance and technology oversight in a higher education environment, with a strong focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance. This role ensures AI technology practices align with academic integrity, regulatory requirements, and VSU’s mission supporting teaching, learning, student success, and institutional efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain IT governance frameworks supporting academic, research, and administrative operations
- Monitor and enforce compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and higher-education security regulations
- Coordinate AI initiatives and prepare documentation for internal, external, and accreditation audits
- Develop and update AI-related policies, standards, and guidelines for data privacy, cybersecurity, and ethical technology use
- Leverage AI to monitor compliance with security awareness programs for faculty, staff, and students
- Track emerging AI governance regulations and recommend continuous process improvements
- Engage faculty, administrators, and technical teams to drive AI compliance initiatives
Required / Preferred Skills:
Required Skills:
- Governance frameworks (COBIT, ITIL) and compliance standards (NIST, ISO) – 10 Years
- IT governance, risk, or compliance experience – 10 Years
- Strong stakeholder engagement for AI compliance initiatives – 5 Years
Highly Desired Skills:
- Understanding of higher-education systems (LMS, SIS, ERP) and AI data privacy – 3 Years
- Interpreting complex AI compliance requirements in academic/administrative contexts – 8 Years
- AI governance and compliance experience in higher education or regulated environments – 3 Years
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, or related field (preferred)
Work Environment:
- Primarily onsite at a satellite location
- Hybrid schedule with flexibility for up to 2 remote days per week
- Reports to the Director of IT Governance, Risk & Compliance
