Systems Administrator (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: On-Site – Virginia
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator for a contract-to-hire opportunity based on-site in Virginia. This role is responsible for delivering on-site and remote technical support for network, hardware, and software issues across diverse client environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical expertise, experience in a managed services (MSP) environment, and the ability to serve as an escalation point for Level 1 support. This position blends systems administration, solution engineering, and field services support.
This is an on-site role and requires regular presence at client locations and company offices in Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain network systems, including installing and modifying hardware and supporting network software and applications
- Respond to service tickets and provide timely issue resolution
- Communicate directly with end users to troubleshoot technical problems
- Provide expert-level support for major operating systems
- Configure and administer virtual environments
- Engineer and implement client-facing IT solutions
- Serve as escalation support for Level 1 technicians and field staff
- Administer and maintain:
- Active Directory
- Group Policy
- DNS and DHCP
- Microsoft 365
- Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and other network security systems
- Develop and enforce IT security standards and best practices
- Monitor systems for security breaches and investigate incidents
- Maintain accurate inventory of hardware, software, and IT assets
- Administer servers, desktops, laptops, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, and mobile devices
- Deploy software, manage patching schedules, and apply security updates
- Assist with project planning by generating quotes and specifying technical solutions within defined limits
- Obtain or maintain at least one (1) technical certification per calendar year
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Minimum of 5 years of technical support experience (MSP experience preferred)
- Industry certification required: one of the following:
- Azure Administrator
- CCNA
- Fortinet FCP
- Experience with RMM and PSA tools (e.g., ConnectWise, Datto, Autotask)
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Experience in a customer service-focused technical role
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure (PCs, servers, switches, routers, firewalls)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
- Professional office and client-site environment
- On-site position in Virginia (remote work not available for this role)
- Standard use of computers, servers, networking equipment, and office devices
- Travel to client locations may be required
