Systems Administrator
JOB SUMMARY
- The ITS Systems Administrator is a member of the ITS Systems Operations team and under general supervision position provides technical expertise in system administration, systems operations and design of server-based systems, VMWare, Azure, Office 365, SQL, Active Directory, and IT data center hardware. The position performs a wide range of tasks including operations support, monitoring, testing, training, maintenance, changes, installation, documentation, analysis, evaluation and design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintain a high-quality environment within the context of the ITS/Business Strategic Plan for technology and services through a wide range of activities including operations support, monitoring, testing, training, maintenance, changes, installation, documentation, analysis, evaluation and design.
- Manages the day-to-day system activities, including backups, monitoring, and daily checks of systems.
- Provides operational support and incident resolution to server-based systems, applications and clients.
- Develops and maintains pertinent documentation and procedures for the technology area according to industry, vendor, Terumo BCT, and ITS standards.
- Effectively monitor systems and enterprise applications. Maximize performance and reliability of on-premise and cloud based systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Network, and DevOps to deliver end-to-end AI operation, system resilience, and reliability.
- Remediate, research and identify complex incidents and problems working to remediate or implement appropriate solutions with a sense of urgency.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May travel to other Terumo BCT’s global site locations.
- Must be able to work non-standard hours, including after-hours maintenance activities.
- May work independently or as part of a team in resolving complex problems.
- Shares on-call rotation responsibility with other team members for 24-hour monitoring, incident, and problem resolution.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- University or college bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years Systems Administration level experience.
- Minimum 2 years configuring and supporting cloud technologies, Azure, Office 365.
Skills
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems and related enterprise applications, services and protocols including integration with 3rd party systems and custom developed applications (Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange hybrid, SharePoint, SQL Management, MS Clustering, DNS, DHCP, F5 load balancing)
- Proficient knowledge of Active Directory, Azure, Entra, including email and group configurations, associated policies for tenants and usage, information security awareness, and multi-site replication.
- Ability to support and maintain enterprise backups and recovery schema. Ability to manage backup and recovery operations, data, systems and associated applications.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Virtualization technologies, including VMWare, Nutanix, Horizon, VDI.
- Knowledge in email messaging systems and architecture, including Microsoft Exchange Online, M365, email filtering services and SMTP Internet routing.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix-based systems (e.g. RedHat Linux, AIX and VMS), including interoperability with Windows systems.
- Knowledge of one or more industry standard scripting languages (e.g VB Script, Powershell, etc) and the ability to leverage that knowledge in developing customized scripting solutions.
- Usage of enterprise storage arrays (preferably NetApp and Pure) and perform basic management.
- Experience with utilizing AI tools such as Copilot through intelligent prompting for operational tasks.
- Familiarity with network architecture and TCP/IP networking.
- Familiarity with system tools for event management, incident management, change management and configuration management, and with the ITIL framework for these processes.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft server-based products and their interactions with Microsoft client operating systems, and connectivity/interoperability protocols.
- Ability to install, configure, support and maintain operating systems, including virtualization solutions, and enterprise-applications software.
- Ability to optimize servers for use by applications, databases, and utilities, and to diagnose the unique challenges that may be presented by each type of use.
- Proficiency in configuring and supporting Windows Server based servers in a large, global, multi-site environment.
- Ability to work alongside team members and other teams to deliver committed results.
- Knowledge and use of relevant desktop software applications and skills to use them effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current Microsoft Certifications preferred, especially in cloud technologies including Azure and Office 365.
- ITIL certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Typical Office Environment requirements include: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 70 pounds. Some work is required in an enterprise data center environment.
