Data Center Technician for our client in
Elk Grove Village, IL.

Responsibilities:
- Installation and Deployment:
- Install small servers and other IT devices in racks (up to 1U when working independently).
- Ensure correct alignment, spacing, and structured cable management to maintain airflow and optimize rack capacity.
- Perform basic configuration of equipment: mainly servers (DRAC).
- Support network team to deploy from remote, the basic configuration of switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Update and maintain documentation for all installed equipment, cabling layouts, rack elevations, and physical network configurations (ability to read and work with Sunbird or similar DCIM tools).
- Perform physical labor as required, including lifting equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Whenever a new device has been installed or should be checked for any visual or audible faults cable link lights off, power supplies not energized, front panel errors, fans running at high RPM. Server iDRAC IP's should be configured and checked to confirm they are reachable for servers.
- Handle tapes.
- Network Cabling:
- Terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber-optic cabling in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of cable routing, labeling, and patching information.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as cable checks and physical equipment inspections: should include a daily walk through on all the rooms, equipment should be checked for any visual or audible faults cable link lights off, power supplies not energized, front panel errors, fans running at high RPM.
- Troubleshoot and replace field-serviceable components (e.g., network cards, memory modules, SFPs, power supplies) following vendor guidelines.
- Execute all physical interventions on the infrastructure as instructed by support teams.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain up‐to‐date inventory of consumables used during installations and removals (cables, fibers, PDUs).
- Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts (drives, pluggables, etc.).
- Report discrepancies and ensure proper alignment with asset management processes.
- Handle inbound equipment: relocate items to storage, collect and record serial numbers, and share details with Procurement and Asset Management teams.
- Vendor Coordination:
- Guide and assist third‐party vendors during new deployments and on‐site activities.
- Manage RMAs and warranty claims to ensure timely replacement of faulty equipment.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with racking and stacking server hardware, network devices, and cabling.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA / EIA‐568, ISO / IEC 11801) and general best practices.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, including protocols, cabling types, NIC bonding / port aggregation, IP addressing, and subnetting.
- Proficiency with cabling and connectivity tools, cable testers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Commitment to safety standards and procedures during installation and maintenance activities.
- Awareness of industry regulations and guidelines related to data center installations and cabling.
- Strong problem‐solving capabilities, with the ability to troubleshoot cabling and connectivity issues.
- Willingness to work outside standard hours (evenings / weekends) when required for installations or maintenance windows.
Pay Rate: $55 - $60 / Hour
